Question

I notice you talk about business continuity and risk assessment. Why do you place so much importance on this ?

Answer

In most businesses, their core tool is their technology -AND- your Staff. Lets address a few questions:

  • What if one of your key staff get’s head hunted by a competitor ?
  • What if your server or critical IT infrastructure fails ?
  • What will your staff do in downtime during system failure ?
  • If you had a failure, how long would that last for ?
  • How will your business function ?
  • Have your backups or cloud services been tested for timed return to production ?

These are questions we don’t know the answer to as a general rule. Our niche is to ask the questions,  assess your risk, advise you and put a plan around it with your IT or HR providers. In order to assess the varying degrees of risk, we offer a free hour to get a view of your setup before you pay us. It might be worth a call to get an opinion at the very least.

Question

Im a small trade business with one office lady & 2 plumbers in the field. We still run a paper based job card system & enter the information manually into our accounts package. I’m worried we are to small for you to work with us and concerned about the cost to engage you, but do need some help.

Answer

We work with small businesses that range from self employed trades or professional people up to 30+ employees. Our expertise is to assess your requirement in an obligation free meeting, report to you our thoughts and record of that meeting and put our costs in front of you along with the benefits and cost savings for you to decide. A lot of our clients are less than 5 employees and have returned many times over the cost of our engagement by working with us. If you are on a paper based system and re-keying information, with the automation using applications like GeoOp & a  Mobile Phone your savings will be quiet significant. Furthermore the time savings your staff will make with automation can be better placed to have bigger outputs from your business.

Question

Last year I installed a new software package. We are paying a large monthly fee to maintain it and don’t feel we are getting value.

Answer

This is a complex and common concern for many businesses. Too often technology is implemented into a business and the work required to make it fit and train your staff is not followed through. In most cases its a matter of bridging the gap between the people processes and the technology. Our role would be to meet with you and understand your business and the tasks the software is or is not completing. This is the first step, as it is far more cost effective to maintain an implemented system than change it. Once we have your understanding, we would contact your software vendor and work on your behalf to understand the capability of the software, and get the processes & procedures in place to return the capability to you. We also have the ability to write procedure manuals specific to your business and training documents for new staff and current staff to be inducted to the software and the processes around it that make your business tic. We also ask that you nominate one of your people on staff to work with us on the process so that this process and capability is held within house as well. If the software is inappropriate for your requirement, we would advise as such and work with other vendors to find you an alternative.

Question

We need a technology upgrade. Can you suggest what we need and help us upgrade our systems.

Answer

Fusion Business Innovation is purely here to partner with you to achieve your need. We do not supply hardware, software or technical resources – but refer and partner with your current IT provider or choice of provider. In this case, our initial meeting would be an assessment of your technology upgrade requirements and what your current technology is falling short on. If there is no need to spend money on upgrades then why do it ? Our 25 + years working close to the ICT industry places us with the ability to advise as such. In the case you wish to expand the capability of your technology or upgrading failing equipment, we would asses and report back with our costs. Your IT company would then be engaged with the scope you set with us to implement the solution. Once the new fit out is completed, we would then offer to write or supply training and procedure manuals, plus coach you through your technology to ensure you are getting the best from it.

Question

We have low morale in our workplace and staff are not engaging or excited to work here. As a result, we see many errors in data input,  a lack of care with process and high staff turnover.

Answer

A key objective of Fusion is to bring technology and people together and get them working a process that makes them feel good about what they do. With 25 years experience in employing people and working in other businesses, I can say for sure, managers sometimes overlook the fact that people need to feel a sense of security, accomplishment and reward to their job. They need to be empowered to do their job and when complacent problems occur, deal with it in a way that has positive re-enforcement. Most staff need a structure or a set of guidelines to work within and with no framework or a lack of understanding of it, this leads to many different and complex issues in the workplace that has been outlined. We have tools to engage staff to share and collaborate, put processes and guidelines around their roles, and coaching available on day to day issues. If there is a recognition that some higher level HR management or consultation is required through our network we can refer you to a HR specialist for advice. Generally most morale and staff engagement can be resolved with fixing some basic key markers in a business. One key concept is to get both staff and management to understand the pathway management wish to take, and getting staff to support that through proper understanding and engagement. This is called change management. Fusion can talk with staff and management – and even motivationally speak to the whole group on experiences, people and ways to make it better. An open forum getting everyone together, discussing work with an independent person and hearing on other anonymous workplace experiences sometimes does wonders.

Question

How do I know what my business smells like.

Answer

We call this the smell test. How does my business smell to the customer that wants to do business with us ? That’s one way we explain to a business if they smell nice with happy customers or pungent in which customers will not come back. Customer retention is key, and its easier to keep customers rather than get new ones. It could be customer service, product availability or knowledge, lack of systems or bad body language and attitude that will determine how you smell. We don’t know how we smell as we are immersed in our business and for staff or business owners to see it from a customer perspective is almost impossible. Fusion can get a completely independent non emotional perspective of your business through mystery shopping, discussions with management and staff independently and assessing the business is a great way to self assess, and capitalize better on what we do well as well as work on areas that we understand to be lacking.

Question

My Staff learn much better with webinars and webcasts.

Answer

We are finding a trend where handbooks and manuals are becoming a think of the past in the workplace. Information retention and quicker uptake of change is being achieved with webinars and webcasts. With the growing popularity of Youtube and other digital media – staff learning is easy and very visual using these methods. We have specific software we can produce video tutorials (webcasts) very easily. First step is to meet with you, understand your message then create a series of webcasts for your staff to watch at their own pace, as many times as they wish.
